A filter is a trap. It catches dust before the dust reaches anything expensive. When it loads up, two things happen at once: airflow through the system drops, so your AC moves less air per minute for the same running cost. And the dust that used to stop at the mesh starts going past it. Once it is on the coil you need coil cleaning. Once it is in the duct runs you need duct cleaning. Once it has settled on a wet surface for a season you need mould removal.
The outdoor half of this job matters for the same reason and gets skipped even more often. Your condenser sits in open Dubai air with sand blowing across it. Once that coil face is blanketed it can no longer dump heat outside, so the compressor runs longer to shift the same heat. Cleaning the indoor filter and ignoring the outdoor unit fixes one of the two restrictions in the system.
That is the outside limit in Dubai, not the target. If you cannot remember the last time, it is due.
Drop the return grille and look. A clean filter is see-through. A due one has a mat of grey lint sitting across the weave.
A recent, noticeable drop in the push of air at the vents is usually the filter. A slow decline over a season is usually the coil.

Handover dust and a previous tenant’s habits both live in that filter. A filter and condenser clean is the quickest way to start from a known state.

This is the page where we talk you out of things. If you can already smell mould when the AC starts, or your rooms have stopped cooling properly over the course of a season, filter cleaning is not the service you need. Buying it will feel like being sold something.
A smell means something is growing on a wet surface: the drain tray, the drain pipe, the coil face or the duct interior. A slow loss of cooling almost always means the coil. Neither is reachable at this price point, and pretending otherwise is how a AED 149 job turns into an argument.

A filter clean is the easiest job in Dubai to half-do, because the part most often skipped is the one you never look at. The outdoor condenser sits on a balcony or a roof, and it is doing half the work.
For the price that I paid, they sent three personnel to clean our vents and AC duct. They also have a camera in their vacuum and a monitor so that you can see what they are cleaning. Consider me a repeat customer - I plan to have my vents and AC ducts cleaned every 3 to 6 months to ensure my newborn baby breathes fresh air here in Dubai.

Yes - it is in the name and it is the half people miss. The outdoor condenser sits in open air collecting sand, and once its coil face is blanketed it cannot dump heat into the air properly, so the whole system works harder. Cleaning the indoor filter and ignoring the outdoor unit fixes one of the two airflow restrictions in your system.
Every one to three months. One month if you are running the AC hard through summer, live near a construction site or the coast, or have pets. Three months is the outside limit for a lightly used system in a settled building. This is far more often than most people expect, and it is the single reason Dubai AC systems get into a state that needs stripping down.
You can, and if you are willing to do it every month you should - we would rather tell you that than sell you something. Two things people get wrong: scrubbing a fine mesh with a brush opens up the weave so it stops catching the small particles, and refitting a filter that is still damp puts a wet surface into a cold dark box, which is exactly how mould gets started. Wash gently, dry it completely, and check the outdoor unit while you are at it.
Usually not, and this is the honest answer rather than the profitable one. If you can smell damp when the AC starts, something is growing on a wet surface - most often the drain tray, the drain pipe, the coil face or the duct interior. The filter is dry most of the time and is rarely the source. A AED 149 clean will not reach any of those, so book AC Mould Removal instead and we will look at where it actually is.
It might help a little if the filter is badly loaded, because a blocked filter does cut airflow. But if the drop in cooling has built up over a season, the cause is far more likely to be the coil, and coil cleaning at AED 299 is the service for that. If the far rooms in particular never get cold, look at the duct runs. Spending AED 149 first to see if it helps is a reasonable thing to do - just do it knowing that is what you are doing.
